Mesenchymal chondrosarcoma is an extremely rare subtype of chondrosarcoma composed of primitive “small blue cells” admixed with islands of hyaline cartilage. It develops in both bone and soft tissue. Chondrosarcoma is a type of cartilage that occurs in cartilage cells.
In general, mesenchymal chondrosarcomas are cancerous tumors that grow faster and are more aggressive than all other chondrosarcoma types. The cause of these tumors is believed to be due to genetic mutations and chromosomal aberrations. Teens and young adults are more likely to develop mesenchymal chondrosarcoma.
The signs of mesenchymal chondrosarcoma vary depending on the exact location and progression of the tumor. They commonly affected bones in the body include the spine, ribs, jaw, and thighbone, while the commonly affected soft tissues are those in the arms and legs and head and neck region. Typically, these tumors cause pain and swelling in the affected area. If a tumor grows large enough, it can compress nearby structures and cause additional symptoms. For example, a mesenchymal chondrosarcoma that compresses the spinal cord can cause paralysis, while a tumor in the eye socket can cause pain, swelling, visual problems, and protrusion of the eyeballs. Mesenchymal chondrosarcomas can also spread to other areas of the body, particularly the lungs, liver, lymph nodes, and other bones, and may result in fatal complications.
Mesenchymal chondrosarcoma harms the skeletal system. It can also affect different body systems.
Foods that fight mesenchymal chondrosarcoma and bone cancers include antioxidant-rich foods such as berries, cherries, tomatoes, broccoli, spinach, and kale; omega-3 rich-foods such as salmon, sardines, walnuts, flaxseed, and flaxseed oil; and healthy protein sources such as lean meats, tofu, beans, cold water fish, organic eggs, whey, and vegetable protein shakes.
Treatments for mesenchymal chondrosarcoma may include surgical removal of the tumor. For natural treatments, herbal plants or mixtures of plant extracts are used to treat tumors like mesenchymal chondrosarcomas.
