Cimzia is a drug used to reduce the effects of tumor necrosis factor (TNF), a substance in the body that can cause inflammation. It is used to treat symptoms of Crohn’s disease after other drugs become ineffective. Cimzia is also used for the treatment of moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis in adults. In addition, it is used for treating psoriatic arthritis, plaque psoriasis, and ankylosing spondylitis in adults. This drugs is injected under the skin and is typically give every two to four weeks.
The active ingredient contained in Cimzia is certolizumab, which belongs to a class of medications called tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors.

Using this medicine while breastfeeding will harm the baby. It can also increase the risk of developing a rare type of cancer of the liver, spleen, and bone marrow.
Cimzia damages the immune system, which can result in severe and life-threatening infections. This drug may decrease the ability of the body to fight infection and increase the risk of diseases, including severe bacterial, fungal, and viral infections that may spread through the body. People with diabetes, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B, chronic infections, or those using certain medications are more vulnerable to diseases.
